Program FAQ

Answers to some frequently asked questions about Early Literacy Storytimes and School Age Programs.

  1. Can I register for more than one program?

We limit families to ONE registered program per child per season to help ensure that as many families can partake in our early literacy storytimes as possible. Milton Public Library reserves the right to remove children registered in multiple classes.

  2. My child is advanced for his/her age; can I register him/her up one age level?

We kindly ask that you adhere to the designated age limits set for the programs. Milton Public Library reserves the right to remove children from registered program who are outside the noted age category.

  3. My child has a birthday half way through the program. Which program should I register for?

We ask that your child is the appropriate age for the program PRIOR to the beginning of the session. For example, if the Babytime program (0-11 months) runs from April 4-May 25, and your child has a first birthday on April 18th, you would register your child for the Babytime program.

  4. Will I receive confirmation that my child is registered?

If your email is linked to your library account, you should receive an email confirmation. Check your spam folders if you do not receive one, otherwise please call the library to confirm your registration (905-875-2665). Space is filled on a “first come, first served” basis.

  5. Can I bring a younger sibling to my older child’s program?

Absolutely! If your younger child becomes upset, you will need to leave the room temporarily, with both of your children until he/she calms down and rejoin the group when your child settles.

  6. Can I bring an older sibling to my younger child’s program?

Absolutely! These programs can be very one-to-one based and you will want to be able to bounce, tickle, and clap with your baby freely.
One suggestion would be to bring a doll/stuffed animal along for your older child to treat as their own “baby” during the storytime activities.

  7. Does my child attend the program on his/her own?

All of our early literacy storytimes require a parent or caregiver to be present and actively participate with their child.

  8. Do I need to bring anything with me to the storytime?

Just bring yourselves (and your socks of course). If you are participating in a Babytime program, you may wish to bring a blanket to use on the floor.

  9. Is there anything else I should know before I register my child?

The library has a “no food or drink” policy in the program rooms. The exceptions are bottled water and breastfed or bottle-fed infants. If your child requires a snack during the program, we simply ask that you leave the room and return once he/she is finished eating.

Bring socks in the event you wish to, or are asked to remove your shoes before the program. We kindly ask you to leave strollers outside of the program room.

Turn your phone to silent and tuck it away before the start of the program. If you must use your phone, kindly step outside of the program room with your child/ren, and rejoin the group when you are done.

Please refrain from taking photo’s or video during the program to ensure the safety and privacy of all participants.

For additional questions or concerns, kindly contact Library Staff at 905-875-2665 who would be more than happy to answer your questions or assist with registration. Thank you.

  1. How do I register my child for a program?

You can sign your children up for a program online or in person. Your child will need his/her own library card to register. The requested PIN number is typically the last four digits of the phone number associated with the card.  A credit card is required for online registration for fee based programs.

  2. Can I register online and pay later?

As noted in the program descriptions on MPL’s online program calendar online registration requires immediate online payment in order to guarantee your space in the program. If you opt to “pay in person”, your spot is not secure until payment is received. The program may fill up before you make it to the library to pay.

  3. Can I register a group of children on one card?

No, each child is required to register with his/her OWN individual library card.

  4. Will I receive a confirmation of registration?

If your email is linked to your library account, you should receive a confirmation. Check your spam folders if you do not receive one, otherwise  please call the library to confirm your registration (905-875-2665). Space is filled on a "first come first served basis"

  5. I would like all my children to attend the same programs together

If all the children meet the age requirements noted for each program that is fine.  Age limits are stipulated for a reason, sometimes by the third parties/entertainment we have hired to run the programs, and we will not make exceptions. Milton Public Library reserves the right to remove children from registered programs, who are outside of the noted age limits.

  6. Am I able to attend the program with my child?

Unless otherwise noted, programs are for children only.

  7. Can I leave the library while the program is running?

Milton Public Library has a “Child Safety Policy” which states that a parent, guardian, or caregiver of children up to age 8, is expected to remain in the library building and immediately join the child at the end of the programme.

  8. What happens if I need to cancel?

You need to notify the library at least 48 hours in advance of the registered program, to receive a refund. Please note that you must speak to a staff member directly, either in person or over the phone. It is not sufficient to cancel online.

  9. Is there anything else I should know before I register my child?

The library has a “no food or drink” policy in the program rooms. Water bottles, with lids, are the exception to that rule.

Bring socks in the event you wish to, or are asked to remove your shoes before the program.

Please leave personal toys and electronics at home. The Library will not be held responsible if they are lost, broken, or stolen.

For additional questions or concerns, kindly contact Library Staff at 905-875-2665 who would be more than happy to answer your questions or assist with registration. Thank you.
